Jack Gleeson, known for his role as Joffrey Baratheon, appeared in London alongside Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
Irish actor Jack Gleeson, best known for playing Joffrey Baratheon in the series Game of Thrones, has demonstrated his support for Ukraine. The artist performed in the UK capital at the opening of the documentary project War Diaries: Unheard Voices of Ukrainian Children, where he read an excerpt from the diary of a young boy from Mariupol.
The celebrity met at the event in London with the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and current Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK, Valerii Zaluzhnyi. During his performance, he read the thoughts of 10-year-old Yehor Kravtsov from Mariupol, which the boy recorded at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
Russian forces shelled the boy’s home in Mariupol, leaving him and his entire family wounded by shrapnel. Gleeson emphasized that he was struck by the resilience and strength of the Ukrainian people.
“What struck me the most was the incredible resilience and strength of the Ukrainians in the face of such great loss and pain. Ultimately, it is truly inspiring to see and read about their courage and bravery, even at such a young age,” said the film star.
The War Diaries exhibition tells the stories of 14 Ukrainian children who survived shelling by Russian occupiers. During the event, there was also a screening of a documentary film by Vladyslav Piatin-Ponomarenko about Mariupol. He filmed the events taking place in the city over the course of 75 days.
